Synopsis
Brazilian Art, Frame by Frame is a six-episode series exploring works from a neglected, almost disowned period of Brazilian art: pre-modernism. Based on the book Arte Brasileira em 25 Quadros, by art historian Rafael Cardoso, the series analyzes works produced between 1790 and 1930 to discuss current issues such as gender equality and feminism, racism and cultural identity, environmental preservation and emigration, nudity and moralism in art.
"It's interesting to look at these works and see that they don't fit the narrative, not because the works are wrong, but because the narrative is false."
Rafael Cardoso
